Hail and storm damage

After a hail or wind storm, damage is often invisible from the ground. We'll inspect the roof, photograph what we find, and give you a straight answer about whether it needs attention.

Signs to look for

  • Dents in gutters, downspouts, roof vents or chimney caps
  • Granules collecting at the bottom of downspouts
  • Missing or lifted shingles after high winds
  • Fallen limbs on or near the roof
  • New stains on ceilings or in the attic

Our inspection

We inspect the entire roof, including ridges, valleys, vents, flashing and gutters, and take dated photos of anything we find. You'll get an honest assessment: no damage, a repair, or damage that may be worth an insurance claim.

An opportunity to upgrade: If your roof needs replacement after a storm, consider Class 4 impact-resistant shingles or stone coated steel. You'd typically pay the difference over a standard roof, and the next storm is far less likely to cost you.

A note on door-knockers

After major storms, out-of-town crews canvass neighborhoods. Before signing anything, confirm the contractor is local, insured and willing to put everything in a written contract.

Common questions

What does hail damage look like?

Dark spots where granules were knocked off, soft bruises, cracked shingles, and dents in gutters, vents and other soft metals.

Should I have my roof checked if it isn't leaking?

Yes. Hail damage often doesn't leak right away, and many insurance policies have time limits for claims.

Can you tarp an opening after a storm?

Yes. We can tarp a damaged area to prevent further interior damage until repairs are made.
